Deon Hotto looks forward to achieving “big things” at Orlando Pirates this season under new coach Jose Riveiro

Deon Hotto anticipates accomplishing “big things” this season with Orlando Pirates under the mentorship of new Spanish coach Jose Riveiro.

Before the 2022/23 season, the Buccaneers hired the relatively unknown 44-year-old tactician to take Mandla Ncikazi’s and Fadlu Davids’ places as head coach.

Last season, Ncikazi and Davids led the Soweto giants Orlando Pirates to a sixth-place DStv Premiership finish and the CAF Confederation Cup final.

This week, 31-year-old Namibian Hotto said at the unveiling of the team’s new kit that he had faith in the new Buccaneers coach.

Hotto said:

“We know things didn’t really go well for us last season, especially losing the CAF Confederation Cup final.

“But we are looking at fixing everything we did wrong last season.

“Plus we have a new coach Jose Riveiro, who I believe is bringing in a lot of positivity and good energy into the team. So, everybody is just hyped up and we all know how important it is for us to try and win trophies next season.

“The coach is very good and he seems to have everything organised. He knows what he wants and he has told us. So, slowly but surely we are getting there and another thing is that he is a simple guy who just wants the best for his players.”

On Saturday, August 6, at 15:30, Orlando Pirates will play Swallows FC at Orlando Stadium to open the 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign.
