Former British prime minister David Cameron is preparing for a star-studded 60th birthday celebration at his coastal holiday home in Cornwall, a decade after Brexit disrupted plans for a much larger party marking his 50th birthday.

Cameron, now known as Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton, and his wife Samantha have reportedly organised a weekend of celebrations for more than 100 guests, featuring exclusive dinners, celebrity visitors and a surfing session to round off the festivities.

The birthday gathering comes as Cameron enters his seventh decade, with the former Conservative leader expected to welcome a mix of entertainment personalities, political associates and close friends.

Brexit Changed Cameron’s Plans for His 50th Birthday

Cameron had reportedly intended to mark his 50th birthday in 2016 with a grand gathering at Chequers, the official country residence of the British prime minister.

However, the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union in June that year dramatically changed his political future. Cameron resigned as prime minister and Conservative Party leader following the referendum result, abandoning the plans associated with his milestone birthday.

Without access to Chequers, he instead celebrated privately at the home of a wealthy friend.

Ten years later, the circumstances surrounding his 60th birthday are markedly different, with preparations under way for a multi-day event at his own property in Cornwall.

Gordon Ramsay and Other Famous Guests Expected

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is among the guests expected to attend the celebrations, alongside television presenter Jeremy Clarkson and actress Helena Bonham Carter.

Nigella Lawson, the television cook and author, has also been mentioned locally as a possible attendee, although her attendance was not confirmed in the report.

Ramsay shares Cameron’s enthusiasm for surfing and owns a luxury property in Rock, less than a mile from the former prime minister’s holiday home.

The weekend is expected to bring together more than 100 friends, with the main celebration scheduled for Saturday evening.

Michelin-Starred Chef to Prepare Exclusive Dinners

Food is expected to be a central feature of the weekend, with Michelin-starred chef Paul Ainsworth reportedly responsible for two dinners built around local ingredients.

Large marquees have been erected in the Camerons’ garden, decorated with white pennants and illuminated by strings of festival-style lights.

Ainsworth operates the restaurant Paul Ainsworth at No6 in Padstow, housed in a Georgian townhouse, and reopened the St Enodoc hotel in Rock during the summer.

His menu features dishes such as Cornish Ewe lamb with black garlic and miso aubergine, as well as Cornish lobster served with pumpkin seed praline. The tasting menu at his No6 restaurant typically costs around £200 per person.

Local reports suggest preparations also include a substantial delivery of breakfast pastries for guests recovering from the evening celebrations.

Rothschild Estate Wines to Feature at the Party

The celebrations are expected to include wines sourced from the Waddesdon estate in Buckinghamshire, owned by the Rothschild family.

The estate is known for its extensive private wine collection, which reportedly contains more than 15,000 bottles, including vintages dating back over a century.

A significant part of the collection comes from the family’s Bordeaux wine estates, including Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild.

According to a source quoted in the report, guests are expected to arrive from Friday, with dinners planned for Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s programme is expected to include surfing followed by a traditional cream tea before guests depart.

Inside Cameron’s Cornwall Holiday Home

Cameron purchased the property in 2017 for £2 million, describing it at the time as one of his personal ambitions to fulfil.

Over the years, the house has been remodelled to create a relaxed holiday retreat suited to entertaining friends. The property overlooks Cornwall’s dramatic coastal cliffs and includes several additions designed for leisure and social gatherings.

Among its features is a snooker room built in 2019 with a flat sedum roof, a type of living roof covered in vegetation. The property also has a luxury wood-burning hot tub reportedly costing £8,000.

A shepherd’s hut is another feature of the estate, reflecting Cameron’s longstanding interest in the rustic garden buildings. He previously installed a £25,000 hut in his Cotswolds garden, with sheep’s-wool-lined walls and a wood-burning stove, and later added a similar structure to his Cornish property.

Surfing and Karaoke Could Round Off the Weekend

Surfing is expected to provide one of the weekend’s main attractions, with Cameron and Ramsay among those who could take to the water.

Cameron is known locally for bodyboarding, while residents have reportedly seen him and Samantha walking along the coastal path.

Music could also feature in the celebrations. Cameron has previously spoken about his fondness for singing at parties, particularly The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night, which he has described as familiar and relatively easy to sing.

He performed the song at a birthday party for Blur bassist Alex James in 2010 and has also expressed a liking for Frank Sinatra’s My Way.

Whether karaoke forms part of the Cornwall celebrations remains uncertain, but Cameron’s previous party appearances suggest it would not be out of character.

Cameron’s Life After Downing Street

Since leaving frontline politics, Cameron has taken on advisory roles in business and technology.

He is a strategic adviser to international law firm DLA Piper and also advises US-based artificial intelligence company Scale AI and private equity firm Finback Investment Partners.

He continues to sit in the House of Lords as Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton, having previously served as Conservative Party leader and prime minister from 2010 until his resignation in 2016.

Cameron and Samantha have three surviving children: Nancy, Florence and Arthur. Their son Ivan died in 2009 at the age of six.

Past Parties at the Cornwall Property Attracted Attention

The family’s holiday home has previously attracted media attention over a gathering involving teenage friends of Nancy in 2019.

Reports at the time said Cameron had to ask some of the teenagers to leave after the party became difficult to manage. The former prime minister was quoted joking with local residents about whether the young guests had been drinking, although Nancy reportedly insisted they had not.

The incident added to the property’s reputation as a venue for lively gatherings, a reputation that appears likely to be reinforced by the planned 60th birthday weekend.

Political Friends Will Join the Celebrations

Alongside celebrities, Cameron is expected to welcome friends from his political career, including Andrew Feldman, now Lord Feldman, a former Conservative Party co-chairman and longtime associate from Oxford University.

However, not all former political allies are expected to attend.

Michael Gove, the former education secretary, is reportedly unlikely to be invited following the breakdown of his relationship with Cameron over their opposing positions during the Brexit referendum campaign.

Sasha Swire, wife of former Conservative MP Hugo Swire, is also considered unlikely to attend. Her memoirs attracted attention for their descriptions of Cameron’s private social life and his party habits.

Those accounts portrayed a social scene involving considerable drinking, including wine, whisky, brandy and Negronis.

Against that backdrop, the reported plans for substantial breakfasts and a Sunday cream tea may prove useful additions to a weekend expected to combine food, celebrity company and outdoor activities.

A Different Milestone From the One Brexit Interrupted

Cameron’s 60th birthday comes ten years after Brexit forced him to abandon his original plans for a major 50th birthday gathering at Chequers.

This time, the celebrations are expected to unfold over several days at a private property, with carefully arranged dinners, high-profile guests and a surfing finale.

The event offers a glimpse into the former prime minister’s life beyond Westminster, where business appointments and his position in the House of Lords now sit alongside family life and a well-established circle of celebrity and political friends.
