Amy Grant and Vince Gill have built a marriage that has lasted more than 26 years, combining two highly successful careers in Christian and country music with a blended family and decades of shared performances.

The couple married on March 10, 2000, after first meeting professionally in 1993 while both were still married to other people.

Their relationship attracted attention because of how quickly a professional connection developed into a romance, but more than two decades later, Grant and Gill remain together and continue to perform and record music.

Their First Meeting Came During a Christmas Special

Grant and Gill’s paths crossed in December 1993 when Gill hosted the televised holiday special Christmas With Vince Gill in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Grant appeared as a guest alongside performers including Michael McDonald and Chet Atkins.

Although the two musicians had already developed successful careers independently, their collaboration created a connection that would eventually change both their personal lives.

Gill had reportedly first become aware of Grant years earlier after hearing one of her Christmas songs on the radio.

Music Became the Starting Point for Their Relationship

The pair went on to record the duet House of Love, which was released in 1994.

Grant has previously spoken about the strong connection she felt when she met Gill, describing him as exceptionally kind and saying she was immediately attracted to him.

At the time of their first meeting, however, both were married.

Grant was married to Christian musician Gary Chapman, while Gill was married to country singer Janis Oliver.

Both Had Previous Marriages

Grant’s marriage to Chapman began in 1982 and produced three children: Matthew Garrison, Gloria Mills “Millie” and Sarah Cannon.

The couple eventually separated in 1998 before finalising their divorce in June 1999.

Gill’s first marriage was to Oliver, a member of the country duo Sweethearts of the Rodeo. They married in 1980 and later had a daughter, Jenny, before divorcing in 1997.

Gill and Grant’s relationship developed after their respective marriages ended.

Grant and Gill Married in 2000

The couple eventually confirmed their relationship and married on March 10, 2000.

Rather than staging a large celebrity wedding, Grant and Gill chose a relatively private outdoor ceremony near Nashville.

Their marriage brought together two established music careers and two families, creating a blended household that would later grow with the arrival of their daughter.

Their Daughter Helped Bring the Families Together

Grant and Gill welcomed their only child together, Corinna Grant Gill, on March 12, 2001.

Between them, the couple have five children from their first and current marriages.

Gill has previously described Corinna as an important link within the blended family, saying her arrival helped bring everyone together in a particularly meaningful way.

The family has remained an important part of the couple’s life away from the stage.

Their Musical Partnership Continued After Marriage

Grant and Gill did not leave their professional partnership behind after getting married.

Grant became a regular performer during Gill’s Christmas television specials, while the pair developed a strong live partnership.

Their Christmas at the Ryman performances in Nashville became particularly successful, eventually running for more than 100 shows and attracting nearly a quarter of a million people.

Their music together has therefore become an important part of both their personal and professional identities.

They Released a Joint Christmas Album

In September 2024, Grant and Gill expanded their Christmas catalogue with the release of When I Think of Christmas.

The collection included remastered versions of nine of their holiday recordings as well as two previously unreleased songs.

Gill praised Grant’s Christmas performances, while Grant said she was especially pleased to include new material, including ‘Til The Season Comes Round Again, a song the pair use to close their Christmas concerts.

Grant’s 2022 Accident Tested the Couple

Their relationship also faced a difficult period in July 2022 when Grant suffered a serious cycling accident near her Nashville home.

She was knocked unconscious for approximately 10 minutes after hitting a pothole while riding with a friend and sustained a traumatic brain injury.

Grant later credited her helmet with helping to protect her life.

Gill responded by putting his professional commitments aside to care for his wife, cancelling performances and remaining by her side during her recovery.

Grant Eventually Returned to Music

The accident forced Grant to reassess her life and career.

She later described the experience as bringing an unexpected simplicity to her life and eventually returned to performing and recording.

The six-time Grammy Award winner subsequently announced plans for new music after a lengthy period without releasing a new project.

Two Music Careers Built a Shared Legacy

Grant and Gill entered their marriage with significant achievements of their own.

Grant became one of the most successful artists in contemporary Christian music, while Gill established himself as a major country singer, songwriter, guitarist and session musician.

Grant has won six Grammy Awards and received a Kennedy Center Honor in 2022. Gill has also enjoyed a long career that includes more than 45 Billboard country chart singles.

Their Financial Success Comes From Multiple Sources

Estimates of the couple’s combined wealth vary considerably depending on the source.

Their income has been built through several areas of the entertainment industry, including recording royalties, touring, songwriting, publishing and session work.

Gill’s extensive career as a musician and session guitarist has provided another source of income, while Grant has also worked as an author in addition to her music career.

A Relationship That Survived a Complicated Beginning

Grant and Gill’s relationship began at a time when both musicians were married to other partners, a detail that has remained one of the most discussed aspects of their story.

Yet the couple’s subsequent marriage has now lasted more than two decades.

Their journey has included a blended family, major musical successes, a serious health crisis and a continuing creative partnership.

More than 26 years after their wedding, Grant and Gill remain married and continue to share the stage, making their relationship one of the enduring partnerships in Nashville’s music community.
