Cyclist Dies After Colliding with Stationary Car and Being Hit by Truck on Main Road in St James, Cape Town

A heartbreaking accident occurred on Saturday when a cyclist lost his life after crashing into a parked car and then being struck by a truck on Main Road near St James, Cape Town.

What Happened

According to reports, the motorist may not have checked properly before opening the car door, causing the cyclist to collide with it.

The cyclist was thrown off balance and fell into the path of a truck traveling behind him.

Response from Authorities

Western Cape police, led by Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, confirmed that Muizenberg officers arrived at the scene where paramedics were already providing aid to the cyclist.

“The police arrived and found the injured man being assisted by paramedics.

It was confirmed that the cyclist had crashed into a stationary car.

As a result, another vehicle coming from behind bumped into him,” Swartbooi explained.

Sadly, despite efforts to save him, the cyclist was declared dead at the scene by the medical team.

Investigation Launched

The Muizenberg police have opened a case of culpable homicide and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
