Cristiano Ronaldo is set to extend his record-breaking contract with Al-Nassr as the highest-paid footballer in the world after a successful year in Saudi Arabia

Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of securing an extraordinary new contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, a deal that will make him the highest-paid footballer in the world.

According to reports, the contract could be worth over £167.9 million (€200 million), further cementing Ronaldo’s status as a global football icon.

A Star in Saudi Arabia

Since making his high-profile move to Al-Nassr in January 2023, following a dramatic departure from Manchester United, the Portuguese forward has not only impressed on the field but also embraced life in Saudi Arabia.

His contract includes an incredible £164 million per year for his performances on the pitch, along with an additional £49 million from endorsement deals and off-field ventures.

Ronaldo has been actively involved in promoting Saudi Arabia, from appearing in videos for the National Day celebrations to attending major boxing events in Riyadh.

His presence in the country has coincided with a broader influx of international football talent to the Saudi Pro League, with stars like Neymar, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante joining him in the Kingdom, attracted by the league’s newfound financial power.

Extending His Career in Riyadh

Ronaldo, now 39 years old, is reportedly close to extending his stay at Al-Nassr, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

If the new deal goes through, Ronaldo will earn a staggering £3.19 million per week—around £419,800 per day—continuing his tenure into his fifth decade.

Since joining Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has enjoyed a prolific run, scoring 75 goals in 84 appearances for the club.

However, despite his individual success, the team has yet to capture multiple major titles, with Ronaldo only winning the 2023 Arab Club Championship during his time in Riyadh.

Last season, Al-Nassr fell short in two title races to rivals Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal, and this season, they are currently in third place, trailing both clubs in the title chase.

Ronaldo’s Drive for Glory

Despite Al-Nassr’s struggles in securing league titles, Ronaldo remains driven by the desire to win more silverware.

His competitive spirit is evident in his comments about the league’s rising competitiveness, especially after he expressed that the Saudi Pro League is “better than Ligue 1,” which he described as being dominated solely by Paris Saint-Germain.

Ronaldo’s statement was a nod to his ongoing commitment to Al-Nassr and his belief that, with continued effort, he can lead the team to victory.

“I’ve been champion everywhere I’ve played, and I believe I will be champion here too,” Ronaldo said.

“It’s difficult to become champion in Saudi, but I’m confident we can push hard to win.”

With his eyes firmly set on more titles, Ronaldo’s journey in Saudi Arabia appears to be far from over, as he continues to chase both personal success and team glory with Al-Nassr.
