Connor Kennedy, the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, has said that despite having no prior military training, he surreptitiously fought in Ukraine early this year.
Connor, 28, said in an Instagram post that the Ukrainian military’s frantic need for assistance inspired him to join the Ukrainian International Legion, a wing of international volunteers, early this year.
He didn’t indicate when he fought or how long he was there, but he did claim he enjoyed his time as a soldier more than he had anticipated.
I wanted to assist. I immediately decided to join the Ukrainian International Legion after learning about it, and the next day I went to the embassy to do so.
I revealed my location to one person here and my true identity to one person there.
I didn’t want to cause my friends or family any stress, and I also didn’t want to face any discrimination there.
Although I wasn’t a terrific shooter and had no previous military training, I could lift large objects and picked up new skills quickly. I was also prepared to pass away there.
Regardless of their military experience or lack thereof, international volunteers of able physique were recruited from abroad to join the war in the Ukrainian International Legion, a hurriedly put up branch of the Ukrainian troops.
The Legion modified its policies in April and started only admitting those with prior combat experience.
The legion’s spokesperson, Corporal Damien Magrou, said at the time: “We have recognized that training individuals without such expertise depletes a lot of resources.
We appreciate the aid, but those without military background are more of a burden than a benefit.
Connor acknowledged that he “wasn’t a good shooter,” but insists he was sent to the front lines in the northeast.

They quickly decided to deploy me to the front lines in the northeast.
I enjoyed serving in the military more than I had anticipated. It is terrible.
“But life is easy, and the benefits of having guts and acting morally are great.”
When and why he returned to the US are unknown.
My buddies there knew why I had to return home, he cryptically wrote.
He exhorted his supporters to take up arms, declaring, “This conflict will determine the course of democracy in this century.”
You can’t expect them to operate independently.
The parents of Connor are RFK Jr. and Mary Richardson Kennedy, who committed themselves in their Bedford, New York, home in 2012.
One of people who confirmed the mission was his sister Kyra, who wrote under it, “I love you big brother.”
Giulia Bourguignon Marinho, a Brazilian model and his partner, acknowledged his service in the conflict.
“My darling, you’re the bravest guy I’ve ever met.” It was really difficult to be away from you and worried for all those months, but we never wavered in our faith, and I just want to say [again] how proud I am of us.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his father, has not yet offered any commentary.
He has spent the most of the past two years speaking out against COVID lockdowns and vaccination requirements since he is a fierce opponent of both.
