The store, located on Swansea Road, has applied for a variation of its premises license, proposing to sell alcohol from 10am to 10pm daily, play live music indoors and outdoors from 10am to 8pm daily, and extend its opening hours from 9am to 10.30pm daily.
Current Licensing Permissions
At present, Trago Mills in Merthyr Tydfil holds a license that permits the sale of alcohol from 9am to 8pm on weekdays, from 9am to 6pm on Saturdays, and from 9am to 4pm on Sundays.
The current license also allows for opening hours and the playing of live music from 10am to 8pm on weekdays, from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays, and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

The existing premises license was granted by the licensing sub-committee in March 2018, subject to certain conditions.
The council has not received any complaints regarding this premises since the license was issued.
After mediation, the applicant revised the application to incorporate all conditions requested by the South Wales Police.

As a result, the police have no objections to the license being granted based on these conditions.
Public Objection
A letter of objection has been submitted by a member of the public expressing “deep concern” about the application.
The letter expresses disappointment and worry about the potential negative impacts on the community and environment, particularly regarding noise and increased footfall.
The letter suggests that these effects would adversely affect their enjoyment of the area.

The objection states that the applicant’s plans would exacerbate the situation, as they already experience loud music and high footfall during events, making it challenging to concentrate on work and rest during night shifts while at home.

Consequently, the objection strongly opposes the proposed license.
Upcoming Consideration
The council’s statutory licensing committee will review the application on Monday, June 12th.

Trago Mills in Merthyr Tydfil seeks expanded licensing permissions for alcohol sales, extended opening hours, and live music.
While the South Wales Police have no objections to the revised application, a member of the public has raised concerns about the potential negative impacts on the community.
The final decision on the application will be made by the council’s licensing committee in the near future.
