Colombia is gearing up to host the International Congress on Religious Tourism from May 5 to May 19, 2025.
The event, with the theme “Tourism and Development: Evangelization and Peace in the National Territory,” will take attendees on a journey through ten cities across the country, focusing on the powerful role of tourism in faith, development, and reconciliation.
Exploring the Role of Faith and Tourism in Community Development
The congress will kick off in Bogotá on May 5-6 and will conclude in Santa Marta on May 18-19.
Organized by the Colombian Bishops’ Conference, the World Religious Tourism Network, and Minuto de Dios, this traveling event will visit cities including Ibagué, Armero, Cartago, and Cartagena de Indias.
The event is particularly significant as it’s being held as part of the 2025 Jubilee celebrations, which center on themes of hope.
The congress will address how religious tourism can be a vehicle for promoting peace and economic development in Colombia.
The event will highlight tourism’s ability to foster reconciliation and bring about positive change in areas affected by conflict.
The organizers believe that it will serve as a platform for deep reflection on faith, forgiveness, and hope in the face of global challenges.
Bringing Together Religious Leaders and Tourism Experts
Religious leaders, tourism professionals, and community representatives from across the globe will come together to discuss how religious tourism can enhance local economies, promote peace, and contribute to Colombia’s image as a global leader in religious tourism.
The congress is expected to play a key role in encouraging the development of religious tourism throughout Colombia, particularly in rural areas that stand to benefit most from its growth.
According to the organizers, the event will be an important step towards “enhancing the country’s reputation as a hub for religious tourism” while also making a significant contribution to peacebuilding efforts in less-developed regions.
A Look at the Cities on the Congress Tour
As part of the congress, several cities will host discussions and activities.
After Bogotá, the event will travel to Ibagué on May 8, Armero on May 9, Cartago on May 10, and Guadalajara de Buga on May 11-12.
The congress will continue in Tuluá on May 13, Popayán on May 14, and will wrap up in Cartagena de Indias on May 16-17.
Each location will offer unique insights into the role of religious tourism in fostering community development and spiritual growth.
The congress promises to be an enriching experience, not only for those involved in tourism but also for anyone interested in the intersection of faith and development.
