South Africa’s Tri-Nation Series Preparation for ICC Champions Trophy

The Proteas are gearing up for the ICC Champions Trophy with a crucial ‘tri-nation’ series, scheduled from February 8-14 in Lahore and Karachi.

This series will serve as an important preparation ahead of the tournament.

Coach Rob Walter has announced an initial 12-player squad for South Africa’s opening match against New Zealand on February 10 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Squad Announcement and Additions After SA20 Eliminator

Temba Bavuma, South Africa’s ODI captain, will lead the squad.

There are six uncapped players in the lineup, including Matthew Breetzke, a batter from the Warriors, Meeka-eel Prince from North West University Dragons, and his teammate, fast bowler Gideon Peters.

Additionally, Dolphins fast bowler Eathan Bosch and Warriors spinner Senuran Muthusamy will be joining the squad.

Western Province all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana is also included, making his second call-up to the 50-over setup after being part of the ODI squad against India in 2023.

Gerald Coetzee, who had been sidelined with a left hamstring strain, is now fit again and will boost the fast-bowling attack.

The team will fly to Lahore on Wednesday evening, ready for the series.

Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen will miss the first match as they travel to Karachi on February 9 in preparation for the second ODI against Pakistan on February 12 at the National Stadium.

The complete squad for the remainder of the tri-nation series will be announced on February 9, following the SA20 Final.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Participants

A few key players—Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, and Rassie van der Dussen—will depart for Pakistan on February 14 as part of South Africa’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.
