City Power hopes to have power fully restored in Joburg CBD by end of the week

City Power says it is hopeful that electricity will be fully restored in the Johannesburg CBD by the end of the week.

Most of the CBD has been without electricity since Monday after a fire in the underground tunnels at Ntemi Piliso Street tripped two main power lines.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have extinguished the fire, but the roads remain closed.

City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says, “A complex was just restored a few minutes ago and we are also having the whole of the eastern part of the M2, that is the other areas that side that includes West Street that are still outstanding currently. We are only going to basically start working to ensure that we restore them. We are hoping that at least by end of this week, they will have electricity.”
