Service Suspension in Alexandra Following Technician Assault
In a separate incident, City Power has announced the indefinite suspension of services in Alexandra after one of its technicians was violently assaulted by residents during a protest on Tuesday, 18 February.
The technician had been responding to a power outage affecting 2nd and 7th Avenue when the attack occurred at the Alexandra Service Delivery Centre.
City Power expressed its outrage over the assault, calling it a severe violation of the rights and safety of their employees.
As a result, no technicians will be sent to Alexandra until the area is deemed safe for staff.
“We strongly condemn this criminal action,” City Power stated.
A Call for Peaceful Protests
City Power has urged residents to engage in peaceful protests and to consider the broader consequences of their actions.
The utility emphasized that the suspension of services in Alexandra is a necessary step to ensure the safety of its employees.
“While we respect the community’s right to protest, we urge residents to think about the impact their actions may have,” the utility added.
