Cape Town is gearing up for one of its most iconic events of the year—the Two Oceans Marathon.
This exciting race weekend is set for Saturday, April 5 for the marathon, and Sunday, April 6 for the Half Marathon.
Whether you’re participating or cheering on a runner, it’s bound to be a memorable event.
Road Closures and Restrictions Ahead
If you’re planning to be in Cape Town during the race weekend, be prepared for a number of road closures and access restrictions.
These will start to take effect from Wednesday, April 2 and last through the weekend, so it’s best to plan your travels accordingly.
A Week of Road Closures (April 2–5)
Several roads will be impacted in the lead-up to the race. Here are some key closures and controls:

Fritz Sonnenberg Road (between Granger Blvd and Bay Road) will be closed from 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM, April 2–4, and from 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM on April 5.

Vlei Road (between Helen Suzman and Fritz Sonnenberg Road) will have similar closures during the same times, April 2–4, and from 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM on April 5.

Granger Bay Blvd (from Beach Road to Fritz Sonnenberg Road) will also be closed during these hours.

Beach Road (near the Green Point Lighthouse) will have stop/go controls from 7:30 to 8:00 AM on April 4.

Beach Road (at the western boundary of the Hotel School) will experience stop/go controls from 7:45 to 8:30 AM on April 4.
Morning Closures for the Marathon: Saturday, April 5
Expect significant traffic disruptions on the morning of the marathon, with numerous roads closed across the route:

Main Road Newlands (between Klipper and Letterstedt Road) will be closed from 3:30 AM to 6:00 AM.

Main Road Newlands to Claremont (from Letterstedt Road to Protea Road) will also be closed during these hours.

Main Road from Claremont to Wynberg, Wynberg to Diep River, and further south to Muizenberg will see a series of closures starting from 4:40 AM to 8:30 AM.

Other closures include Kommetjie Road, Chapman’s Peak Drive, and sections of Hout Bay Road, which will be impacted until around 10:45 AM.
Sunday, April 6: More Road Closures
On Sunday, race day for the Half Marathon, several roads will also be closed for a few hours, particularly in the areas closer to the finish line. These include:

Main Road Newlands (between Klipper Road and Letterstedt Road) will be closed from 3:30 AM to 7:30 AM.

M3 Southbound and Kendal Road will see closures from 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM.

Other closures include Constantia Main Road, Rhodes Drive, and several surrounding streets.
