Residents across extensive parts of Cape Town’s Southern and Far South suburbs have been warned to prepare for a planned overnight electricity interruption as the City carries out critical infrastructure upgrades.
The maintenance is scheduled to take place from 20:00 on Saturday, 10 October, until 06:00 on Sunday, 11 October 2026, subject to the work proceeding as planned.
The programme includes an earlier planned interruption that was postponed from 19 September and has now been incorporated into the October maintenance schedule.
Muizenberg Work Included in Wider Upgrade
The postponed work was expected to affect Muizenberg, Clovelly, Sun Valley and surrounding communities.
The City has combined that project with a broader programme of electrical infrastructure upgrades covering a substantial section of the Southern and Far South areas.
Because of the complexity of the electricity network, however, the City says the published list should not be treated as a guarantee that every listed suburb will lose power.
Residents Urged to Prepare Before 20:00
Households in potentially affected areas are being encouraged to take precautions before the scheduled start of the maintenance.
Residents should switch off electrical appliances ahead of the interruption to reduce the risk of damage from possible power surges when electricity is restored.
The City has also warned that the supply could be restored earlier than expected.
Residents should therefore treat all electrical installations as live throughout the maintenance period and avoid assuming that power will remain off until the stated 06:00 completion time.
Dozens of Southern and Far South Areas Listed
The potentially affected footprint stretches across numerous communities, including parts of the Deep South and areas surrounding the False Bay coastline.
Areas listed by the City include:
Muizenberg, Schaapkraal, St James, Strandfontein, Clovelly, Ottery, Sun Valley, Parkwood, Kalk Bay, Southfield, Fish Hoek, Elfindale, Glencairn, Lotus River, Glen Marine, Grassy Park, Glencairn Heights, Zeekoei Vlei, Glen Ridge, Pelikan Park, Welcome Glen, Steenberg, Woodlands, Lavender Hill, Da Gama Park, Seawinds, Dido Valley, Vrygrond, Bay View Village, Capricorn, Bayview Heights, Costa Da Gama, Simon’s Town, Simon’s Kloof, Kirstenhof, Seaforth, Westlake, Red Hill, Lakeside, Boulders, Scarborough, Middle Beach, Risi View, Bellvue, Froggy Farm, Winford, Rocklands, Fynbos Ridge, Murdock Valley, Misty Cliffs, Smitswinkel Bay, Cape Point, Imhoff’s Gift, Noordhoek, Fish Eagle Park, Long Beach, Masiphumelele, Ocean View, Sunnydale, Soetwater, The Lakes, Kommetjie, Hazelwood Park, Noordhoek Outlying, Meadowsteads, Noordhoek Manor, Belvedere Noordhoek and Chapmans Peak.
Some Areas Could Avoid the Outage
The City has stressed that the geographical footprint of the electricity network does not always correspond with suburb boundaries.
As a result, some communities included in the affected area may not experience an interruption, while electricity could potentially be disrupted in locations that do not appear on the published list.
The City has also cautioned that electricity may be restored at any point during the maintenance period.
