Femi Adesina Claims Buhari Administration Did Nnamdi Kanu a Favor by Extraditing Him, Unveils Insights in New Book

Femi Adesina Reveals Buhari Administration’s Perspective on Nnamdi Kanu Extradition

In a recent book titled ‘Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023),’ former Special Adviser to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, makes a significant assertion regarding the government’s actions against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Buhari Administration’s Favorable View on Nnamdi Kanu’s Extradition

Adesina’s book, launched last week in Abuja, sheds light on the government’s perspective, asserting that the Buhari administration did Nnamdi Kanu a favor by extraditing him to Nigeria.

Kanu, who was a fugitive at the time, faced multiple charges, including terrorism and treasonable felony, after repeatedly breaching bail conditions set by a Federal High Court.

Adesina quotes President Buhari’s stance on the matter, emphasizing the decision to subject Kanu to the judicial system rather than taking drastic action.

Quoting Buhari: Giving Kanu an Opportunity, Not Elimination

President Buhari, responding to a delegation under the aegis of ‘Highly-Respected Igbo Greats,’ stated, “In the past six years, I have developed a system where I don’t interfere with the judiciary.

That was why in the case of Kanu, I said the best was to subject him to the system.” Buhari stressed the importance of letting Kanu make his case in court rather than creating a negative image of the country externally.

The President acknowledged the seriousness of the delegation’s demand for Kanu’s release but highlighted the government’s commitment to the development of the country.

Amaechi’s Delegation and Plea for Kanu’s Release

Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, a First Republic Minister of Aviation, led the delegation to the presidential villa with the demand for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Amaechi expressed the painful and pathetic situation in the East, seeking a solution from President Buhari.

The only surviving First Republic Minister, at the age of 93, vowed that if Kanu were released to him, “I assure you he will no longer say the things he used to say.”

President Buhari’s Response to Amaechi’s Delegation

In response to Amaechi’s delegation and their demand for Kanu’s release, President Buhari acknowledged the gravity of their request.

He expressed sympathy for Chief Mbazulike Amaechi’s loss and considered the difficult demand made on him as the leader of the country.

While empathizing with the delegation, Buhari assured them that he would carefully consider their request.

Insights into Buhari Administration’s Approach: Balancing Judicial Independence and National Development

Femi Adesina’s revelations in his book provide insights into the Buhari administration’s approach, emphasizing the balance between judicial independence and the imperative of national development.

The decision to extradite Nnamdi Kanu is portrayed as a strategic move to uphold the judicial process rather than resorting to drastic measures.

The book sheds light on the complexities involved in managing sensitive issues and navigating the challenges of governance during Buhari’s presidency.
