British Influencer Ebony McIntosh Dies Suddenly in Sri Lanka After Suspected Pesticide Poisoning While on Dream Holiday

A tragedy has struck the family of Ebony McIntosh, a young British influencer, after she suddenly passed away during what was meant to be the holiday of a lifetime.

Ebony, 24, was rushed to the hospital in Sri Lanka on Saturday after reportedly being poisoned by pesticides used to treat bed bugs at her hostel.

Despite medical efforts to treat her symptoms of vomiting, nausea, and breathing difficulties, Ebony tragically passed away just hours later, alongside another guest from Germany.

Shock and Grief Over Sudden Loss

Ebony’s family is struggling to cope with the devastating loss.

A friend of Ebony’s mother, Chandrika Patel, shared the family’s heartbreak, stating that they are inconsolable and beyond grief. “She was their life,” the friend said.

Ebony, the eldest of four sisters, had lived in Mickleover, Derbyshire, her entire life.

Neighbors are also shocked by her untimely death, with one describing her as a “lovely girl” who had lived in the community since she was a child.

A Tragic End to Her Dream Adventure

Ebony’s trip to Sri Lanka, which began on January 28, was the first stop in a long-awaited South Asia tour she had meticulously planned for months.

While the cause of her death is still being investigated, reports suggest that both Ebony and the unnamed German woman who died with her may have been exposed to toxic pesticides, which were reportedly used to treat bed bugs in an adjacent room.

The hostel where they stayed, Miracle Colombo City, has since been shut down by authorities.

Heartbreaking Tributes From Family and Friends

Ebony’s younger sister, India, paid a heartfelt tribute to her sister on social media, expressing how much she would miss her.

“Thank you for being my older sister, one better than I could’ve ever asked for,” India wrote.

She added, “I want you home now tho sis pls come back! I am truly heartbroken.

I can’t believe I am writing this, it feels like some nightmare I haven’t woken up from yet.”

India also set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to bring Ebony’s body back home.

The campaign has already raised over £20,000 of the £22,000 goal.

In a message on the page, India explained how Ebony’s dream trip was cruelly cut short due to her sudden illness and tragic death.

“She passed away with someone from the hostel beside her. We are endlessly grateful to this man for staying with her during her last moments,” she wrote.

Ongoing Investigation and Efforts to Bring Ebony Home

Sri Lankan authorities are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ebony’s death, with a post-mortem examination expected to clarify the exact cause.

The McIntosh family is waiting for the results before they can bring their beloved daughter and sister home.

Meanwhile, the family has launched a fundraising effort to cover the costs of flights, emergency passports, and funeral services to ensure Ebony is given the farewell she deserves.

A Growing Trend of Tragic Tourist Deaths

Ebony’s death is part of a disturbing trend of recent deaths among travelers in Southeast Asia.

Just months ago, British lawyer Simone White was one of six tourists who tragically died from methanol poisoning at a hostel in Laos.

Similar deaths have occurred in Vietnam and other parts of the region, where contaminated alcohol has led to fatal poisoning incidents.

As the McIntosh family waits for answers, they remain determined to bring Ebony home and seek justice for her untimely death.
