Boris Johnson suggested yesterday that British troops may be deployed to defend Sweden and Finland if they are attacked by Russia.

The Prime Minister announced a substantial new military pact with the two countries, who have both been threatened by Russia in recent weeks after showing interest in joining Nato.

In the event of an attack, the’mutual security assurances,’ according to the PM, will see the countries involved come to each other’s rescue.

‘Yes, we will come to each other’s support, including with military assistance,’ the PM responded when asked if British troops could be dispatched to Finland in the case of a Russian invasion.

If Moscow follows through on threats of a military strike, he said the UK would be willing to supply Sweden “anything Sweden requested.”

The mutual assistance pact between Sweden and the United Kingdom, according to Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, will make her country safer. ‘Does this proclamation make us safer? We are, indeed. Of sure, this is significant.’
