Bafana Bafana have returned to South Africa after completing an impressive international break that saw Pitso Mosimane’s side win all three of their matches.
The national team’s latest run included two victories in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign before another narrow win over Egypt in an international friendly.
The results have also lifted South Africa to 48th in the latest FIFA rankings, giving the team its highest position in 15 years.
Three Wins Put South Africa in Strong Position
South Africa began the break with a 2-1 victory over Guinea in their opening AFCON qualifying fixture.
Bafana then travelled to Egypt for their meeting with Eritrea and produced an emphatic performance, securing a 5-0 victory.
The result strengthened South Africa’s position at the top of Group D and provided another boost to Mosimane’s squad.
Egypt Challenge Ends With Another Victory
The final assignment of the international window brought another test against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium.
Unlike the five-goal victory over Eritrea, Bafana had to work much harder for the result, eventually securing a 1-0 win.
The victory completed a three-match winning run and gave Mosimane plenty of encouragement ahead of the return to domestic football.
Sundowns and Pirates Players Face Quick Turnaround
The international success now gives way to a demanding domestic schedule, particularly for players from Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
Both clubs supplied a large portion of Mosimane’s Bafana squad, meaning their players will quickly move from international duty back into club preparations.
There will be little opportunity for an extended rest as attention turns to one of the biggest fixtures on the South African football calendar.
MTN8 Final Awaits in Durban
Sundowns and Pirates are set to meet in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday, 10 October.
The match will kick off at 18:00, with both clubs competing for one of the first major domestic trophies of the season.
The Durban venue is also preparing to host the MTN8 final for the 11th time, adding another chapter to its history with the competition.
Mosimane’s Players Face Another Major Test
The international break may have ended on a high note for Bafana Bafana, but the demands on the players involved in the MTN8 final are far from over.
Sundowns and Pirates will now have to manage the transition from international football back to domestic competition, with their Bafana representatives potentially carrying significant minutes from the three-match break.
For Mosimane, the challenge will be to maintain the momentum created by the national team’s victories while the focus shifts back to club football.
All Eyes Turn to the MTN8 Showdown
With Bafana Bafana back in the country and their international commitments completed, the spotlight now moves firmly onto the MTN8 final.
Sundowns and Pirates will meet in Durban with silverware at stake, while the players returning from national duty will be expected to make the transition quickly.
After a perfect international window for South Africa, the upcoming final provides another major test for some of the country’s leading players.
