Liverpool’s star forward Mo Salah may be enduring a rare dry spell in front of goal, but manager Arne Slot is optimistic the Egyptian international will soon rediscover his scoring touch.
Despite having netted an impressive 32 goals across all competitions this season, Salah hasn’t found the back of the net in his last three matches, marking his longest goal drought in over two years.
A Rare Scoreless Run for Salah
For most players, a few games without scoring wouldn’t raise any eyebrows, but for Mo Salah, it’s a different story.
The 32-year-old winger is used to being a constant presence on the score sheet.
His current run of three matches without a goal is his longest since February 2023.
However, after blanks against PSG, Newcastle, and Everton, Salah will be hoping to end his mini-goal drought against Fulham on Sunday.
Slot Defends His Star Player’s Performances
Slot addressed the recent struggle, pointing out that the challenges faced in recent games have been tougher than usual.
“PSG are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment.
Newcastle were all over us in the Carabao Cup final, and Everton made it tough with 10 men behind the ball,” Slot explained.
Despite the setbacks, Slot is confident Salah will return to form soon, stating, “I know Mo, he lives for goals.
It would be weird if he wasn’t frustrated, but his biggest quality is that he can play a poor game and still find the back of the net.
His head isn’t all over the place when he’s not scoring.”
Salah’s Record-Breaking Potential
Salah’s current tally of 27 Premier League goals makes him the league’s top scorer, and he’s well on his way to securing a fourth Golden Boot.
This would match the record set by Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer.
Even with his recent struggles, Salah is still on track to break records and continue his legacy as one of the Premier League’s greatest.
Liverpool’s Strong Form Amidst Controversial Decisions
While Salah may be feeling the pressure to score, the team as a whole is still performing well.
The Reds secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby, keeping them comfortably atop the league table.
Slot praised his players’ resilience, particularly in how they handled controversial officiating decisions, such as the failure to send off Everton’s James Tarkowski after a dangerous challenge on Alexis Mac Allister.
“I saw us play better football and react better when bad decisions were being made by the referee,” Slot said.
“We were firmer in the tackle and winning duels, which is what we need to keep doing to win games in the Premier League.”
Despite the challenges, Liverpool remains focused on their goals, with both Salah and the team determined to keep pushing forward.
