Antony expresses excitement about his loan move from Manchester United to Real Betis in Spain

Manchester United winger Antony has shared his thoughts on his loan move to Real Betis following a tough period at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old is making his way to Spain, where he is set to complete a move to the La Liga side on loan for the remainder of the season.

This comes after struggling to find consistent form with United since his big-money move from Ajax in 2022.

Struggles at Manchester United

Antony joined Manchester United for a hefty £86 million transfer fee, but his time at the club has been far from smooth sailing.

He has scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 96 appearances for the Red Devils, but many of his performances have not lived up to the expectations surrounding his arrival.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Betis will cover a significant portion—84%—of Antony’s £200,000 weekly wage during his loan spell.

The deal will also include an option for the Spanish club to make the move permanent in the future.

A Fresh Start in La Liga

Excited about the opportunity, Antony expressed his joy at joining Real Betis.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, he said, “I’m so happy, I’m ready.”

The winger is clearly eager for a new challenge, especially given his lack of league starts for Manchester United this season.

While Olympiacos had shown interest in signing him on loan, Antony made it clear that he didn’t want to move to Greece.

Real Betis, currently in 12th place in La Liga, are also advancing to the knockout phase of the Europa Conference League, where they will face Gent.

For Antony, this move offers the chance to get back to his best and play regularly—a chance he wasn’t receiving at United.

A Tough Decision for United and Antony

Though Antony began his United career under manager Erik ten Hag with regular appearances, his playing time has decreased significantly.

Most recently, he has only featured as a substitute under new coach Ruben Amorim.

It was agreed that a move away from United was necessary, allowing the Brazilian winger to revive his career with consistent playing time in Spain.

Antony’s time with United hasn’t been without highlights.

Last season, he helped the club lift the FA Cup, following their League Cup win the previous year.

Prior to his move to the Premier League, Antony won two Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup with Ajax, establishing himself as one of the top talents in Europe.

As Antony gears up for his new chapter with Real Betis, he will be hoping to show the kind of form that made him such a sought-after player just a couple of years ago.
