The African National Congress (ANC) caucus in the Vrybug-based Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality in the North West has removed the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) District Mayor, Tebogo Babuile.
He has been replaced by ANC councillor, Sense Maje.
Babuile was elected district mayor last year in November during the first council meeting. This is after some ANC councillors colluded with opposition parties and elected him as the mayor.
Co-ordinator for the ANC Interim Provincial Committee, Hlomani Chauke, says they are happy that their party will now be able to render services to communities.
“We are happy now the ANC is correcting itself and Maje is now the mayor and we believe that Maje, together with the team that will be deployed as MMC’s mayoral committee will be able to resolve and deal with service delivery in that area. Their mandate is nothing else, but to support local municipalities to provide water, sanitation, roads and electricity to our people. That is their mandate to change the lives of our people,” says Chauke.
The newly-elected mayor, Sense Maje, says his first priority is to ensure that he constitutes a fully-fledged ANC mayoral committee.
“We have ensured that we reclaimed the mandate given to the African National Congress by the electorates in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District. Soon we will establish a mayoral committee of men and women of the ANC, who will ensure that effective and efficient services are delivered to our own communities as promised and committed in our 2021 local government elections manifesto,” says Maje.
