The building site of an ongoing structure that collapsed Thursday night at Oba, Idemili South Council Area, has been sealed off by a joint taskforce of the Anambra State Government led by the Physical Planning Board.
A-Class Avenue Saint John Paul Estate, Umuogali Village, Oba is the location of the collapsed building.
Barrister Chike Maduekwe, the Executive Chairman of the Board, confirmed that no casualties were reported, contrary to media allegations.
He stated that no approval had been obtained for the project, saying that the board’s staff always faces opposition from residents in the region when working on any development initiative.
Developers should always seek approvals, according to Barrister Maduekwe, as a manner of avoiding avoidable undesirable outcomes, underlining that such a step is in keeping with Governor Soludo’s resolve and mandate of a livable and flourishing homeland.
Dr. Kingsley Obasoanya, the President General of Umuogali Local, expressed sadness for the terrible situation and stated that the developer is far away in Spain, adding that the village residents have since initiated a hunt for the project’s contractor.
He stated his willingness to collaborate with the Governor Soludo-led government to restore normalcy to the construction industry.
Officials from the National and State Emergency Management Agencies were there, according to correspondent Ejike Abana.
Luckily for people living in the community, they were not involved in the accident. No death or injury has been recorded. However, they are sad at what happened in their peaceful community. According to reports, the builders are not in Nigeria.
