Anambra State Chapter Of Nigeria Red Cross Society Donates Medical Equipment, Washing Materials To Primary Healthcare Centres

The Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Red Cross Society has donated medical equipment and washing materials to six Primary Health Centres across the State.

The intervention was part of its programmes to mark this year’s International Humanitarian Day.

Paul Ezeoke reports that the benefitting centres include Primary Healthcare Centres at Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, Ohaita, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, Abagana Njikoka Local Government Area, and Agulu Awka Community Primary Healthcare Centre, Umuogbu village Awka, Awka South Local Government Area.

Among the items distributed were cartons of medical equipment and washing materials, including clinical and digital thermometers, scalpel handle stethoscope, suction tapes, gallons, buckets, hand sanitizers, and many others.

Speaking while distributing the materials, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Red Cross, Professor Peter Katchy said the intervention was to assist the various centres with necessary logistics to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently; in order to promote the health of the people.

Professor Katchy noted that Anambra State has the best healthcare system in the country, with multiple well-equipped and managed primary healthcare centres in various wards of the local government areas, providing efficient service delivery to meet the health needs of the people, and commended the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala and the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency,  Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu for living up to expectations, noting that till date, Anambra has continued to maintain commendable quality health indices and low spread of infectious diseases, as well as rapid response to emergencies.

He observed that the State Health Insurance Scheme has provided Ndi Anambra, irrespective of financial status, easy access to quality healthcare services in every part of the State.

Speaking after inaugurating the Ward Development Committee of Agulu Awka Community Primary Healthcare Centre, Umuogbu village Awka, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Mr Leo Nwuba commended the Nigeria Red Cross for extending its humanitarian services to the health centre to help preserve lives, and extolled Governor Willie Obiano and his wife, Dr Ebelechukwu for touching people’s lives in various ways.

In their separate remarks, the Matron of the Centre, Mrs Grace Nwobu assured that the materials would be put to good use to serve the purpose for which they were donated, while the State Health and Care Officer, Nigeria Red Cross, Mrs Constancia Amagbe said they started the programme with comprehensive assessment of all the primary healthcare centres in the State, through which they selected one healthcare centre in each of the local government areas for intervention.
