Ali Bastian, the beloved Hollyoaks star, has recently reached a significant milestone in her battle against breast cancer after completing five months of chemotherapy.
The 42-year-old actress, who is best known for playing Becca Dean on the Channel 4 soap from 2001 to 2007, was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in June and immediately began her treatment.
Reflecting on the Chemotherapy Journey
On Tuesday, Ali took to social media to update her fans, describing the chemotherapy process as “major.”
She shared a touching video alongside her husband, David O’Mahony, where she rang a bell—a symbolic gesture of completing this phase of her treatment.
Although she is still working through the final cycle, Ali acknowledged how much of an emotional journey it has been.
“There’s still so much to process on every level,” she shared, expressing her deep appreciation for the oncology team at Dunmanway CUH.
She humorously added that she hoped the next time they met, it would be over glasses of Prosecco to celebrate their incredible work.
A Wave of Support
Ali’s post quickly became a flood of love, with messages pouring in from fans, co-stars, and celebrity friends.
Hollyoaks colleagues like Jamie Lomas and Gemma Merna praised her for being “amazing,” while TV personalities such as Lizzie Cundy and Anna Williamson sent words of encouragement.
Helen Skelton and Giovanna Fletcher also joined in, sending their love and support.
Ali expressed her gratitude for these kind words, saying they help her through the difficult moments.
Hospital Visit Amid Treatment
In a recent update, Ali shared that she had been rushed to the hospital during her treatment.
She posted a selfie from her hospital bed, thanking the team at Cork University Hospital A&E for their care.
Afterward, she took some much-needed rest, enjoying a quiet walk through the countryside.
“Back home now getting some fresh air and some rest,” she captioned the post, showing that despite the challenges, she is staying positive and focused on recovery.
The Emotional Journey of Hair Loss
In a candid interview, Ali opened up about the emotional toll of losing her hair due to chemotherapy.
She admitted that shaving her head was a difficult moment, fearing it would cause her to lose her identity.
However, after taking off her wig for the first time, Ali shared that it felt surprisingly normal.
“It just felt normal,” she said, adding with a smile, “I’m hot, and my bald head needs some air!”
Her strength and resilience throughout this process continue to inspire many.
Ali’s journey remains one of courage and perseverance, supported by the love of her family, friends, and fans.
