Agriculture Ministry calls for Community Ownership of Projects

Rural communities in Nigeria have been urged to take ownership of the various developmental projects implemented in their communities by the government.

 
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development FMARD, Dr.

Mohammed Abubakar stated this at the commissioning and handover of Federal Government Developmental Projects in some communities of Surulere, Local government area of Lagos State, South west Nigeria .

 
The Minister, represented by the South West Zonal Director of the Ministry, Mrs.

Omolara Oguntiyi said the projects are aimed at reducing challenges faced by communities.

 
“This Solar Street light project here at odejayi Crescent, the Asphaltic Road At Eric Manuel, the Solar-Powered Bore hole at Animashuan Street are some of the projects being executed in different parts of the country by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as a way of reducing or eradicating challenges facing most of our communities.

She called on benefitting communities to maintain these facilities and take proper care of them.

 
“As these projects are being commissioned and officially handed over to the community for use today, I wish to congratulate the benefitting communities while appealing for proper maintenance and provision of adequate security by the local government , traditional rulers and other stakeholders to avoid vandalisation of the facilities.


 
On her part, the Lagos state coordinator of the Ministry, Olayinka Akeredolu said the execution of the projects is in line with the Ministry’s Mandate.

 
“The FMARD is responsible for formulation and implementation of the policies on Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria.

The Ministry in line with this mandate has been providing basic social amenities in all the communities throughout Nigeria.

This includes roads, boreholes, street lights, animal hospitals and development of ranches.

 

 “In Lagos State, much has been done in the area of provision of boreholes, solar street, lights, toads and farmers market,” she said.

 
Some members of the communities expressed gratitude to the government for the provision off these facilities saying the projects have helped improve their standard of living in areas of security and socio-economic comfort.

 
Some of the projects executed by the Ministry across the country include solar street light, Asphaltic roads, and boreholes.

 
In Lagos State, peculiar projects that are being executed include: the agbowa modern farmers market, Solar powered borehole in poro-bage community in Ikorodu, one kilometre concrete road at Tori Lovi, Badagry, solar-powered street lights and Asphalt road in Akanbi Adeniran in Ifako-Ijaiye, interlocking road at Adetutu street in Alimosho LGA and Asphaltic road at Ijesha close, Ikeja LGA.
