After weeks of uncertainty, heartbreak, and hope, Alijah Arenas—son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas—has finally returned home.
The 18-year-old, who was left in a coma following a shocking car crash in Los Angeles last month, made an emotional homecoming that was nothing short of miraculous.
The teenager’s road to recovery has been long and intense, but his family and supporters are breathing a sigh of relief now that he’s back under his own roof.
A Crash That Changed Everything
It all started in the early hours of April 24 when Alijah’s Tesla Cybertruck slammed into a tree in Los Angeles and burst into flames.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene just before 5 a.m., pulling Alijah from the wreckage.
He had to be placed into a medically induced coma due to smoke inhalation, though remarkably, he suffered no broken bones.
For days, his loved ones watched over him in the hospital, hoping for signs of improvement.
Slowly, and thankfully, they began to see just that.
From Coma to Walking and Talking
Just last week, the Arenas family shared with TMZ that Alijah had made remarkable progress.
He was able to walk on his own and talk with his parents—former Wizards star Gilbert Arenas and TV personality Laura Govan.
These were huge milestones for a teenager who had recently been unconscious in intensive care.
Though the family is overjoyed, they’re also realistic.
Doctors say Alijah still has a long way to go, and full recovery will take time.
Gilbert Shares Emotional Homecoming Video
To mark this uplifting moment, Gilbert posted a heartfelt video of Alijah returning home.
In the clip, you can see balloons, flowers, and gifts welcoming him back—though Gilbert couldn’t resist sharing a funny story about his son’s preferences.
Apparently, Alijah once joked with his friends that if he were ever in a coma, they’d better not bring flowers.
Instead, he wanted them to show up rapping: “I might swerve, bend that corner, woah”—a lyric from Gelo that now hits a little too close to home.
With typical dad humor, Gilbert wrote, “Nothing screams perfect timing like saying ‘Swerve on that corner, woah’… right after you actually did.
Into a tree.
Into a hospital stay.”
He ended his post with a heartfelt “WELCOME HOME.”
Gratitude for the Heroes
Gilbert also made sure to thank the real-life heroes who saved his son’s life.
In his message, he gave a shoutout to Jose, Bryant, and Robert—the first responders who pulled Alijah from the burning vehicle.
“I want to thank Jose, Bryant, and Robert for saving Alijah — he can’t wait to meet you guys,” Gilbert wrote.
“Truly grateful to everyone for the prayers, love, and support during his healing. Much love.”
What Really Happened That Night?
The exact cause of the crash still isn’t known.
However, police have said there’s no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved.
At this point, authorities believe speed was the main factor in the accident, which involved no other vehicles. There’s currently no criminal investigation underway.
A Bright Future Still Ahead
Despite everything, Alijah’s basketball dreams are still within reach.
The high school star is a five-star recruit and has already committed to play for USC next season.
Before the accident, he was turning heads as one of the top young prospects in the country.
His dad, Gilbert—known to NBA fans as “Agent Zero”—knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
And now, more than ever, he’s watching his son not just as an athlete, but as a fighter and survivor.
