A dramatic scene unfolded in the streets when a police officer hopped on a suspect’s bike and gave chase as the man tried to flee arrest.
The thrilling chase was caught on body-cam footage, capturing the intense pursuit that would end in the suspect’s capture.
The Start of the Chase
The incident took place on December 9, 2023, when 22-year-old Justice Oyedokun was approached by a police officer.
As soon as the officer neared, Oyedokun, dressed in a black hoodie and carrying a Nike bag, took off running in a desperate attempt to escape.
The body-cam footage, which was later edited with dramatic music, sped up to match the high-energy chase scene.
Sergeant Cooley Takes Action
Rather than letting the suspect get away, Sergeant Alan Cooley picked up Oyedokun’s bike and took off after him.
While the suspect continued to sprint, the officer kept in close pursuit, constantly updating his team over the radio, warning them of his location and signaling for backup.
An Unexpected Encounter
The chase took an ironic turn when the officer caught up to Oyedokun.
As they circled around a car, the officer quipped, “You might as well give up mate.”
Oyedokun, still trying to resist, shouted back, “Get off of me, you fool.”
As the two circled the car, the officer, clearly winded, continued relaying his location—”By Domino’s Pizza”—while trying to catch his breath.
The Final Attempt to Escape
Just when it seemed like the chase might go on forever, Oyedokun made one final attempt to flee.
However, his efforts proved futile when a police car appeared, cutting off his escape route.
The suspect was arrested shortly thereafter on Romney Road.
Legal Consequences
A spokesperson for the Met Police later confirmed that Oyedokun, from Trafalgar Road, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis, along with an offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
On January 20, 2025, he was sentenced at Bromley Magistrates’ Court to eight months in jail and ordered to pay a £187 surcharge.
Strong Message to Drug Dealers
The police spokesperson emphasized the message sent by this arrest, highlighting the department’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug-related crime.
The spokesperson noted that drugs often lead to violence and exploitation, and the police remain committed to disrupting the drug trade.
Officers on the ground continue to patrol key areas, with support from specialized units that gather intelligence and execute warrants to bring drug dealers to justice.
Online Reactions
The video quickly gained attention online, with many praising the officer’s quick action.
One user humorously suggested, “Time to give proactive officers fast e-bikes!”
Another chimed in, recognizing the officer’s efforts, saying, “Excellent work from one of my closest mates and one of the easiest identified voices in the Met.”
This pursuit serves as a reminder of the tireless work law enforcement does to combat drug crime and protect communities.
