On January 14, 2025, inspirational speaker Lynn Forbes shared a touching tribute to her late son, rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known as AKA, through an emotional Instagram post.

Currently visiting Istanbul, Turkey, with her granddaughter Kairo Forbes, Lynn reflected on AKA’s deep love for the city and its rich history, which he always wished to experience with his family.

AKA’s Love for Istanbul and Turkish Culture

Lynn spoke fondly of AKA’s admiration for Istanbul, which he had always wanted to visit due to the city’s historical significance and vibrant culture.

Tragically, AKA was killed in a shooting outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road, Durban, on February 10, 2023.

Lynn shared that as she walked through Istanbul, it felt as if her son was still with them, guiding their steps.

In her Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude for the warmth and hospitality shown by İsmail, a local, during their visit.

She also fondly recalled an emotional moment when they visited Iznik Works in 2019, a place AKA had visited himself.

“Kiernan always wished to take us to visit Istanbul because he appreciated the rich history and vibrant culture of Türkiye so much! On this trip, it literally feels as if we are walking in his footsteps,” she wrote.

The Healing Power of AKA’s Memory

Lynn shared how hearing stories from strangers who had met AKA and cherished their interactions with him brought both comfort and healing.

She highlighted how these memories kept his spirit alive, providing solace during this emotional journey.

Additionally, she revealed a special moment involving a vase AKA had bought for DJ Zinhle during his trip to Istanbul. “@djzinhle wants me to have the beautiful vase that Kiernan bought for her on this trip, and I will keep it safe for @kairo.forbes to have when she grows up,” Lynn wrote.

Kairo’s Reflections on Their Istanbul Adventure

Meanwhile, Kairo also shared her excitement about the trip.

She expressed that while she might not have chosen to travel to Istanbul herself, her Glammy (Lynn) always knows how to make their adventures special.

“Because Glammy said we should go and experience new things and make new memories.

She always knows what’s best,” Kairo explained in a media statement.

Kairo also mentioned the unique approach Lynn had taken for their trip.

“For our Istanbul trip, Glammy is creating a Cultural, History, and Food Passport for us to stamp everything we experience!” Kairo eagerly looked forward to checking off her list of experiences as they explored the city together.
