Real Betis is showing interest in Stefan Bajcetic, the promising young midfielder from Liverpool, with the Spanish club considering a move for him during the upcoming January transfer window.
The 20-year-old has already made a name for himself at Liverpool, but his future at Anfield is now uncertain.
Bajcetic’s Journey So Far
Bajcetic made his debut for Liverpool’s first team during the 2022-23 season, earning praise under then-manager Jurgen Klopp for his performances in 11 appearances.
However, his progress was interrupted by persistent adductor and calf injuries, and he only played once during the following season.
After his setbacks, Bajcetic was loaned to Red Bull Salzburg, where he worked under former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders.
While his time in Austria was productive, with 18 appearances in all competitions, including five in the Champions League, it has been unclear whether he would stay there or return to Liverpool.
A Potential Move Away from Anfield
Liverpool had initially planned for Bajcetic to stay at Salzburg for the season, but Real Betis has now emerged as a possible destination.
The Spanish club could make a move to sign Bajcetic, either on loan or potentially permanently, although Liverpool’s stance on selling him remains unknown.
Slot’s Belief in Bajcetic’s Future
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Bajcetic’s future, Liverpool’s current manager, Arne Slot, has expressed confidence in the midfielder’s potential.
Slot recently praised Bajcetic’s talent, acknowledging the challenge of managing a young player who has been sidelined for 15 months due to injury.
Slot believes that playing time is key for Bajcetic’s development, but with a competitive midfield at Liverpool, it might be better for the young player to seek more consistent minutes elsewhere.
“The only thing he needs is playing time,” Slot commented.
“He could have playing time over here, but with so many great midfielders, his opportunities would be more limited than at Salzburg.”
What’s Next for Bajcetic?
As Bajcetic’s contract at Anfield runs until 2027, his future remains uncertain.
A move to Real Betis or another club could be the next step in his career, but whether Liverpool opts for a permanent transfer or another loan deal remains to be seen.
For now, Bajcetic’s journey continues as he seeks regular playing time to fully realize his potential.
