45-year-old prison librarian assaults six male convicts

Six male convicts are allegedly the victims of sexual assault by a woman who worked as a prison librarian for eight months.

During her brief stay at HMP Kirkham in Lancashire, Sharon Mawdesley is accused of sexually assaulting a number of males.

The 45-year-old worked at the Category D jail while employed by Lancashire County Council’s library department until departing in 2018.

Mawdesley, of St Luke’s Road in Blackpool, stood before Preston Crown Court today and denied three charges of misconduct in a public position and six counts of sexual assault.

She gave her name as confirmation and filed a not guilty plea to the allegations against her.

Mawdesley was given unconditional bail and will go on trial on September 29, 2023.
