A rising young singer, Zair Guette, who gained fame after competing on The X Factor, has tragically been kidnapped and murdered while traveling for a performance.
Body of Zair Guette Found in Rural Colombia
The 25-year-old singer’s body was discovered early on Friday morning in a grassy field near the small town of Ginebra, located about 30 miles northeast of Cali, Colombia.
Guette, known for his talent and charming stage presence, had been shot, and his hands were tied with a gag stuffed in his mouth.
His manager, Teddy Guevara, who was 35 years old and a father of two, was found a few feet away, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds with a zip tie around his neck.
Manager’s Survival and Final Words
Guevara, though severely injured, was still alive when authorities found him.
He was rushed to a medical facility, but despite the efforts, he tragically passed away on Saturday morning.
Before his death, Guevara shared with the police that he and Guette had been ambushed by multiple men who took them to an undisclosed location and tortured them.
Guette’s Rise to Fame and Growing Popularity
Guette, originally from Barranquilla, Colombia, had made a name for himself with renditions of songs by the iconic Mexican singer Vicente Fernández.
His talent soon gained attention in Colombia, and he later went on to tour Spain and Italy.
He even appeared on the Colombian version of The X Factor and participated in other well-known musical reality shows, including A Otro Nivel and Yo Me Llamo.
It was in his home country, however, that he garnered the most loyal following.
Ties to Criminal Gangs and Previous Threats
Reports have emerged suggesting that Guette’s murder could be linked to the criminal underworld.
Just weeks prior to his death, Guette’s name was included in a pamphlet circulating in Barranquilla, listing individuals targeted by a gang seeking vengeance for the 2023 massacre of Rafael Vega and his sons, members of the notorious Vega Daza crime family.
The gang believed Guette’s career was financed by Jorge ‘Castor’ Collazos, the leader of the rival Los Costeños gang, and this put him in their crosshairs.
Fellow artist Engell Melody shared his thoughts on social media, revealing that Guette had been previously threatened.
“He had already spoken to those people, and they had left him alone,” he wrote, confirming the tension Guette had been under.
Mysterious Call Before His Death
A law enforcement source told Colombian newspaper El Tiempo that Guette was supposed to perform in Bogotá but received a call asking him to perform in Cali instead.
The source suggested that Guette had not been paid in advance for this new gig, raising suspicions that the call might have been part of the plot to lure and kill him.
Investigators are now working hard to track down Guette and Guevara’s cellphones, hoping they will provide crucial leads to uncover the truth behind the murder.
The murder of Zair Guette is a tragic loss for the music world, and the investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the details surrounding his untimely death.
