A 30-year-old suspect from Intabazwe near Harrismith is behind bars after he attempted to rape a woman (36) who was walking alone at midnight on her way to her boyfriend’s place. She was rescued by a group of boys who heard her calling for help in the township.
It is alleged that on 26 March 2022, at about 00:00, the woman was walking alone in the street on her way to visit her boyfriend. Whilst she was walking at another section, she realized that a male person, known to her, was following her.
It’s further reported that the suspect pulled and twisted her right arm and forcefully dragged her to a nearby school.
During a scuffle between the woman and the suspect, she saw a group of males passing by and shouted and screamed for help. The suspect fled and she managed to get to her boyfriend’s house.
He is expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court soon facing a charge of attempted rape.
