Lasers were pointed at Liverpool star Mohamed Salah just before he missed a crucial penalty after the crucial World Cup qualifier match against Senegal went to extra time, according to footage and photographs released.
However, when lasers were shone at Egyptian stars during the game and Salah was allegedly targeted with objects hurled by home fans as he was escorted down the tunnel by bodyguards at Senegal’s national stadium, issues have been raised once again regarding fan behavior.
Only Salah will know if the lasers aimed at him had any impact on his erroneous penalty kick, which he blasted over the crossbar.
“Before the commencement of the encounter between the two teams, the Egyptian Football Association filed a formal complaint against its Senegalese counterpart with the match observer, the security official, CAF, and FIFA,” the federation said at full-time.
“After the erection of insulting placards in the stands aimed at the players, specifically Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian team was subjected to racism.”
“Moreover, during the warm-up, Senegalese fans terrorized the Egyptian players by throwing bottles and stones at them, as well as attacking the Egyptian team bus, resulting in glass shattering and injuries, as shown by photographs and videos included to the complaint.”
