The sixth day of the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial saw the Vardys leave the London High Court early on Tuesday 27 May as former England captain, Wayne Rooney, gave his testimony.

According to Daily Mail, Jamie Vardy accused Rooney of “talking nonsense” following claims his wife had to be called to order during the Euro 2016 football tournament.

Wags, Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy are going up against each other in a £3 million (R60 million) libel case which involves allegations of “fake stories” about Rooney being leaked to The Sun newspaper in 2019.

WAYNE ROONEY RECALLS ‘DISTRACTING’ EURO INCIDENT

In a witness statement, Rooney revealed that he was pulled to the side by then England manager, Roy Hodgson, and his assistant, Gary Neville, during the Euro 2016 football tournament. The two managers allegedly asked him to speak to Vardy to ask his wife, Rebekah, to calm down. Rooney was the England captain at the time.

While giving evidence on Tuesday, Rooney described it as an “awkward” moment as there were concerns that Rebekah was “causing problems and distractions” for the team in France.

“[Mr Hodgson and Mr Neville] asked me to, as captain, would I be able to speak to Mr Vardy on issues regarding his wife,” The Independent quoted him as saying.

“I agreed to speak to Mr Vardy… to ask him to ask his wife to calm down… It was an awkward moment for me to speak to Jamie about his wife but I thought it was necessary having been asked by the England manager,” he added.

JAMIE VARDY DENIES INCIDENT

However, Vardy denied that the conversation ever happened and accused Rooney of “talking nonsense”.

“Wayne is talking nonsense. He must be confused because he never spoke to me about issues concerning Becky’s media work at Euro 2016. There was nothing to speak about, I know this because I discuss everything with Becky,” Vardy claimed.

The Vardys reportedly did not return to court after a short mid-afternoon break. According to a lawyer, Mrs Vardy was not feeling well.
