The late Monarch, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, was characterized by Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, as a bridge-builder whose brilliance and deep knowledge would be missed.
Prof. Osinbajo disclosed this to journalists in Akure on Monday while on a visit to Ondo State.
Many people in his town, the Southwest, and around the country were affected by the late monarch, he added.
“We’re all in a lot of pain and have a lot of grief.”

Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo, was a force of nature in his own right; he was a man of amazing wisdom, profundity, and erudition in every manner.
“He was a bridge constructor, and I believe he built a few.”
From the beginning, he established various opportunities for individuals from the Southwest of Nigeria to connect with people from other zones.”
“I had multiple meetings with him, mainly in Abuja, while he was in Abuja and sometimes in Ibadan,” Prof. Osinbajo recalled of his personal experience with the late highly regarded monarch.
He was one of Nigeria’s most astute observers on public life and politics, and he possessed a broad understanding of politics, foreign relations, and international events, as well as the Nigerian political economy.
He wrote a number of articles and books, which he was always eager to share. I believe that the Alaafin of Oyo was someone who the monarchy kept hidden from the majority of the people.
“I want to thank God that he was such an incredible and impactful leader, and he didn’t just impact Yoruba land or Oyo State, but he impacted the entire nation,” the VP said of the late Alaafin. “Today we celebrate a man who has lived a life of impact, who has reigned as a monarch, not just royalty, but he has royally proved that you can make tremendous impact in the lives of common people and in the life of His influence, I believe, has been felt across the country.”
