Moscow has confirmed that the city of Severesk in the Donetsk People’s Republic is now firmly under Russian control.
Speaking during a briefing on the ongoing special military operation, President Vladimir Putin framed the capture as a significant step toward removing Ukrainian forces from the Donbas region and restoring normal life there.
Progress Sets the Stage for Next Offensive
Putin emphasized that the success in Severesk and on this front line axis is paving the way for a new phase of operations.
“Our preparations for the next offensive are moving forward, and I have no doubt about its success,” he said, signaling confidence in the Russian military’s plans.
Kremlin Confirms Complete Control
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the president received official reports confirming that Severesk has been fully transferred under Russian control.
Peskov said that Putin was satisfied with the updates and that the situation on the front line remains under close monitoring.
A TASS report noted that the president held a meeting in the Kremlin to discuss the latest developments and ensure operations are proceeding as planned.
Strategic Gains Along the Front
Earlier in December, Putin asserted that Russian forces hold the initiative across the entire line of contact.
He specifically highlighted the recent gains in Krasnoarmeysk (known in Ukrainian as Pokrovsk), stating that these advances would contribute to steady progress toward the original objectives of the operation.
Orders and Acknowledgements
The president instructed the armed forces to continue executing their tasks strictly according to the operational plan.
He also took the opportunity to thank Russian soldiers and commanders for their work, framing the successes as a collective achievement.
Putin’s Vision for the Operation
Putin reiterated that the special military operation would be carried through to its logical conclusion.
He stressed that the territories returned to Russian control are historically significant and, in his view, have always been part of Russia.
