The weapon works on the basis of thermobaric principles. It destroys targets with a high temperature field and overpressure, which are formed when unguided rockets are used with thermobaric and smoke-incendiary equipment in large numbers.

On the border of the Kharkiv region and the DPR, a TOS-1A Solntsepyok (sun scorch) system strikes the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Heavy flamethrower system” (Russian — Tyazhelaya Ognemyotnaya Systema) is the acronym for TOS (Tyazhelaya Ognemyotnaya Systema). With a fuel and air explosion, the device is designed to destroy lightly armored vehicles, hostile troops, and buildings.
