As the Cape Winelands club Stellenbosch FC enjoys its recent triumphs, veteran PSL striker Lehlohonolo Majoro has opened up about an insightful discussion he had with former defender Morgan Gould.

This conversation sheds light on the club’s ambitious five-year plan, which has now reached its conclusion.

Gould’s Short Stint and Club Milestones

Morgan Gould’s tenure at Stellenbosch FC was brief but memorable.

During the 2019/20 season, he played just one season with the club, making 11 appearances.

This period was pivotal for Stellenbosch as it marked their entry into the top tier of South African football following their promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Since then, the club has firmly established itself in the PSL, becoming a tough competitor in the league.

Achievements of the Five-Year Plan

The club’s five-year plan, which was set to wrap up at the end of last season, has clearly paid off.

The 2023/24 season was particularly noteworthy, with Stellenbosch FC securing their first-ever PSL trophy, the Carling Knockout Cup.

They also finished third in the league, earning a historic spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Gould’s Insight on the Ambitious Plan

In a recent interview with FARPost, Majoro recounted how Gould had shared details about Stellenbosch’s five-year vision.

According to Gould, the club aimed to win a trophy and sell at least four players to bigger teams.

Reflecting on the club’s recent successes, Majoro highlighted how Stellenbosch has not only achieved its trophy goal but has also seen several players, including Iqraam Rayners, Ashley Du Preez, Deano van Rooyen, Antonio van Wyk, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Olwethu Makhanya, and Anicet Oura, move on to larger clubs.

Majoro’s Take on the Club’s Success

Majoro expressed his admiration for the club’s progress, stating, “I had the privilege to chat with the legend Morgan Gould, who previously played for Stellenbosch.

He told me about the five-year plan that Stellenbosch had; it’s something that didn’t happen overnight.”

He continued, “Their five-year plan was to win one or two trophies and sell four players.

From what I see, they’ve achieved that. They won a trophy [Carling Knockout Cup], and they’ve sold more than four players.

The plan worked, Steve Barker is doing a great job, and Stellenbosch is becoming like a high-performance centre in the Western Cape.”
