Pastor Josh Sullivan, the US preacher who experienced a terrifying kidnapping in South Africa, has made his way back to the United States.
The Tennessee native, who had been living in South Africa with his family, has finally returned home after enduring a harrowing ordeal that he described as “the worst experience” of his life.
The Dramatic Kidnapping and Rescue
In 2018, Josh Sullivan and his family moved to South Africa to start a church in the Eastern Cape.
However, earlier this week, the 45-year-old pastor found himself in a life-threatening situation.
During a sermon, Sullivan was abducted and held for five days, with his captors demanding ransom.
Fortunately, South African authorities were able to carry out a successful rescue mission, ending in a dramatic showdown where three suspects were fatally shot by police.
Josh’s Reflections and Gratitude
Since returning to Tennessee, Sullivan has taken to social media to reflect on the terrifying experience.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, he shared his deep gratitude for the support he received throughout the ordeal.
“I want to begin by thanking God for delivering me from what was undoubtedly the worst experience of my life,” he wrote.
Sullivan also expressed thanks for the peace he felt during his time of captivity, crediting his personal relationship with Jesus Christ for giving him the strength to endure.
In his post, he thanked the public for their prayers, which he believes played a significant role in his miraculous rescue.
“I am also thankful for the South African police, the FBI, and all the law enforcement agencies who were part of the rescue mission,” he added.
Sullivan mentioned that the family is now focused on healing and moving forward, and he asked for privacy as they work through this difficult period.
US Embassy’s Praise for South African Authorities
The US Embassy has also extended its gratitude to the authorities involved in Sullivan’s rescue.
A statement from the embassy praised the swift and coordinated response from the South African Police Service (SAPS), specifically commending the work of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) and other agencies, including the Anti-Gang Unit and Crime Intelligence.
The embassy expressed appreciation for the collaboration between South African authorities and the US Mission, highlighting the importance of ensuring the safety and security of US citizens abroad.
What’s Next for Pastor Josh Sullivan?
Now that he is back in the US, questions remain about whether Sullivan and his family will return to South Africa.
While the ordeal has been deeply traumatic, Sullivan has not yet made any statements regarding his future plans.
For now, he is focused on recovery and moving forward, as he and his family try to heal from this life-altering experience.
