The United States and Israel are taking steps to strengthen their commercial relationship through a new nationwide initiative designed to connect businesses, attract investment and accelerate technology partnerships.
The initiative, known as the US-Israel Innovation Exchange (USIIE), was announced by the Michigan Israel Business Accelerator (MIBA) following a summit in Detroit that brought together 80 representatives from government, corporate organisations and economic development institutions.
The gathering concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for closer cooperation between the two countries. The agreement sets out plans for a central platform supporting market intelligence, investment missions, Israeli business delegations and joint technology pilot projects.
New US-Israel Platform Aims to Connect Businesses Nationwide
The USIIE is intended to bring several existing efforts to strengthen American-Israeli commercial cooperation under one nationwide structure.
Through the platform, participating organisations will be able to develop business partnerships, facilitate cross-border investment and support employment opportunities in different parts of the United States.
MIBA said the initiative would help build on the economic development work already taking place across individual states by creating a more coordinated approach to connecting Israeli companies with American markets and industries.
Mark Davidoff, chief executive of MIBA, said closer economic cooperation was important to the growth and competitiveness of both countries.
“For years, states have built successful economic development strategies without the power of a collective approach,” Davidoff said. He added that the USIIE would bring those individual achievements together in a nationwide hub.
The initiative is designed to give businesses and regional economic development organisations a common platform through which to identify opportunities and establish new commercial relationships.
Detroit Summit Focuses on Investment and Technology Cooperation
The Detroit summit ran from Monday through Wednesday, with the announcement of the agreement and new initiative concluding the event on Thursday.
Participants took part in roundtable discussions and keynote sessions covering capital investment, technology transfer and the contribution Israeli businesses can make to economic development in American regions.
The event brought together leaders involved in different aspects of US-Israel business relations, including corporate executives, government representatives and economic development professionals.
Chaim Martin, Israel’s economic attaché at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, said the relationship between the two countries had significance beyond conventional trade.
“A strong US-Israel economic relationship is not simply a matter of trade; it’s also a strategic asset that strengthens innovation, competitiveness, and resilience,” Martin said.
The discussions reflected the organisers’ ambition to use commercial cooperation to support innovation and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
Israeli Companies in New York Generate Billions in Economic Value
Figures presented by MIBA highlighted the existing contribution of Israeli businesses to the American economy, particularly in New York.
According to the organisation, Israeli companies operating in the state have generated more than 28,500 jobs and approximately $13.3 billion in economic value.
MIBA also reported that it has connected more than 5,000 business leaders since its establishment in 2021, generating over $90 million in direct economic impact.
The organisation cited these figures as evidence of the potential benefits of expanding commercial links between Israeli companies and American businesses.
Davidoff said the partnerships supported by the new memorandum could help increase the scale of that activity.
“We believe that the synergies created by the MOU will set the foundation to expand the already significant economic activity geometrically,” he said.
The figures provide a benchmark for the new initiative as its organisers seek to extend similar business connections beyond the relationships and markets already established.
MIBA Chairman Sees Opportunity for Wider Economic Expansion
Howard Handler, chair of MIBA’s board, described the launch as an early step towards a broader effort to strengthen economic cooperation across the United States.
“This is the beginning of a much larger economic movement,” Handler said.
He said the organisation wanted the US-Israel Innovation Exchange to become a leading platform for connecting Israeli innovation with American markets, industries and communities.
The initiative’s success will depend on its ability to turn the new framework into practical business relationships, investment opportunities and technology projects.
By consolidating existing programmes and creating a nationwide network, MIBA hopes to make it easier for companies and regional development bodies to identify partners and pursue opportunities across state borders.
US-Israel Economic Ties Enter a New Phase of Coordination
The creation of the USIIE represents an effort to organise and expand commercial cooperation that is already producing measurable economic activity.
Rather than relying solely on separate state-level initiatives, the platform is intended to provide a coordinated route for businesses seeking investment, market access and technology partnerships.
For Israeli companies looking to expand in the United States, the initiative could provide additional connections to American industries and regional economies. US businesses, meanwhile, could gain access to Israeli innovation and potential collaborative projects.
MIBA has presented the platform as a way to build on existing successes while encouraging further investment and job creation.
The memorandum establishes the framework for that cooperation, while the long-term impact will depend on the partnerships, projects and economic activity that emerge from the initiative.
