URC latest news: Stormers leave Herschel Jantjies at home for trip to Wales

The Stormers have named a 24-man traveling squad for this weekend’s United Rugby Championship (URC) clash against Scarlets.

The Cape side will travel to Wales to face the Scarlets in their final round-robin encounter of the season at Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli on Saturday, 21 May.

Kick-off is at 18:10 (SA time).

Springbok scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies is a notable omission from the squad as he continues his recovering from a hand injury.

Luckily for the Stormers, they are able to replace Jantjies with Stefan Ungerer, who is back with the side on a short-term loan from Griquas before joining the Stormers on a full-time basis in July.

Godlen Masimla is the other scrumhalf included in the squad.

The Stormers, who are fourth in the log, can ensure home ground advantage in the quarter-finals with a win against the Scarlets.

Scarlets are currently 10th in the standings and out of contention for a playoff spot.

“This is a vital game for us as we look to secure home advantage in the playoffs, so the players all understand what is at stake,” head coach John Dobson told the Stormers’ official website.

“We want to end the league phase of the competition on a high, but we know that we will have to be at our best to come away with a win against a highly motivated Scarlets side.”
