Two Women from Suffolk and Edinburgh Surprise Each Other with Proposals on Same Day at Calton Hill in Edinburgh

Two women, unknowingly planning to propose to each other on the same day, shared an unforgettable moment of love and joy.

Sally Morton, 39, from Suffolk, had carefully set up a surprise proposal for her girlfriend, Leanne Stewart, 35, from Edinburgh, just a few days before Christmas.

What Sally didn’t expect was that Leanne had been secretly planning the exact same gesture, leading to a heartwarming twist when both women dropped to one knee.

The Unforgettable Twist

Captured on video at the top of Calton Hill in Edinburgh, Sally can be seen proposing to Leanne with a heartfelt speech, getting down on one knee.

Meanwhile, Leanne nervously reaches into her pocket, ready to ask the same question.

“When I turned around, I thought Sally had found my ring and was proposing to me because of that,” Leanne said.

“But then I noticed her ring box was a different color from mine, and I couldn’t believe what was happening.”

A Shared Moment of Love and Surprise

Leanne, an assistant manager at a swimming pool, described the moment as both surreal and beautiful.

As Sally finished her emotional proposal, Leanne followed suit, getting down on one knee and asking her partner to marry her.

“She beat me to the proposal by seconds, but I’m just so happy we were on the same page without even knowing it,” Leanne said with a smile.

“And, of course, I got the first ‘yes’ of the two of us!”

Over a Year in the Making

The couple had been secretly planning their proposals for over a year, with both buying rings for each other just weeks apart.

Sally, a farm manager from Bury St. Edmunds, reflected on the significance of the moment.

“When Leanne dropped to one knee, I thought she was joking at first, but when I saw her ring box, I knew exactly what was happening. It made me so happy,” Sally shared.

She also noted how comforting it was to know that Leanne wanted the same future together, especially since she has two children from a previous relationship.

Capturing the Special Moment

A full-circle moment came when one of Sally’s 12-year-old daughters filmed the emotional proposal.

The couple, who met on TikTok in April 2021, had spent a year and a half traveling between Suffolk and Edinburgh to be together.

Eventually, Leanne moved in with Sally and her twin daughters, bringing them closer together.

Family Connections and Planning

Leanne honored tradition by asking Sally’s father for his blessing before revealing her plans to her own family.

“There were lots of calls between family members, all laughing at the coincidence of it all,” Leanne said.

Although she had initially planned to propose in front of Edinburgh Castle, Sally’s suggestion to take a walk up Calton Hill led to a change of plans.

Leanne, flexible as ever, agreed to the change, unaware that Sally had already arranged for a photographer to capture the special moment.

Looking Toward the Future

The couple, already excited about their engagement, has hired a wedding planner to help them prepare for their big day in the autumn of this year.

With their shared love story and the magical proposal, their future together is bound to be just as special and full of surprises.
