Tragedy Strikes in Alaska: Two US Soldiers Killed in Transport Vehicle Accident

Two US soldiers have been killed and 12 have been left injured after a transport vehicle flipped on a dirt road heading into the Yukon Training Area.

Vehicle Accident on the Outskirts of Salcha

The vehicle, a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV), was carrying 17 soldiers when the driver lost control on the outskirts of Salcha, Alaska, at around 11 am on Monday.

Immediate Response and Medical Treatment

‘First responders reached the scene and extracted the personnel and provided on-scene medical treatment until the soldiers could be medically evacuated by ground and air to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital,’ an Army statement said.

Identities Yet to Be Announced

The identities of the soldiers involved have not yet been announced.

Destination: Yukon Training Area

The troops from the 11th Airborne Division had been headed to the Army’s 257,000-acre Yukon Training Area, east of Eielson Air Force Base and about 30 miles from Fort Wainwright.

A Mourning Division

US Army Alaska spokesperson, John Pennell, told the Deccan Herald: ‘The entire 11th Airborne Division is in mourning now for these two soldiers, these two young men that we’ve lost.’
