A televised interview between U.S. President Donald Trump and NBC journalist Kristen Welker came to an abrupt end after a heated exchange over the 2020 presidential election.

The discussion, conducted for the NBC program Meet the Press, deteriorated when Welker pressed Trump to provide evidence supporting his long-standing claim that the election had been stolen.

Tensions Rise Over Election Claims

The confrontation intensified as Welker repeatedly questioned the president about his allegations of widespread election fraud.

Trump responded angrily, accusing both the journalist and major news organizations of dishonesty.

During the exchange, he criticized several television networks and argued that the American electoral system was flawed.

Trump also accused the media of bias, directing personal criticism at Welker while defending his position on the 2020 vote.

President Declares Interview Over

As the discussion became increasingly contentious, Trump announced that he had reached his limit and signaled that he wanted to end the interview.

He told Welker that he had already devoted enough time to the conversation and sharply criticized the state of the American press.

The president then began to rise from his seat, effectively ending the session before all planned topics had been covered.

Welker Appeals for More Time

Welker attempted to salvage the interview, reminding Trump that she had traveled to Wisconsin specifically for the exclusive conversation.

She urged him to remain and continue answering questions.

Despite her appeals, Trump remained firm.

He argued that he had already spent considerable time speaking with her, including portions of the interview conducted outdoors in rainy conditions. Maintaining that he had given enough access, he continued toward the exit as the interview concluded prematurely.

Discussion Had Shifted to Iran Before Walkout

Before the dispute erupted, the conversation had focused on U.S. policy toward Iran and the ongoing tensions surrounding the country’s nuclear program.

Trump said he believed a resolution to the conflict could be within reach if a ceasefire remained intact.

He also discussed the possibility of a future agreement between Washington and Tehran that could involve securing and eliminating highly enriched uranium that he described as “nuclear dust.”

Trump Outlines Potential U.S. Role

According to the president, any agreement could allow the United States to work alongside Iranian authorities to remove and destroy the nuclear material.

He suggested that American equipment and expertise could be used in the process, either at the site where the material is stored or after it is transported elsewhere for disposal.

Trump maintained that American personnel would not be placed in danger if such an operation occurred.

He argued that the United States would ensure conditions were secure before any mission proceeded.

Warning of Military Action if Diplomacy Fails

While expressing optimism about a negotiated solution, Trump also issued a warning about the consequences of failed talks.

He stated that if an agreement could not be reached, the United States would respond with significant military force against Iranian targets.

The president emphasized that any deployment of U.S. personnel to handle nuclear materials would only occur under conditions he considered safe, whether through diplomatic cooperation or following military action.

High-Profile Exchange Draws Attention

The dramatic ending to the interview quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the sit-down, overshadowing much of the policy discussion that preceded it.

The clash highlighted the continuing friction between Trump and members of the national media, particularly when questions turn to the disputed 2020 election and claims that have remained a source of controversy for years.
