…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. Gauteng Department of Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, expressed his sorrow following the tragic death of a Grade 4 learner from Laerskool Booysens in a scholar transport accident that involved 23 other learners in Rosslyn, north of Pretoria.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 24 May.
Accident Involving Grade 4 Learner in Rosslyn
According to Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the accident took place on Wednesday morning while learners from Mabopane were being transported to school in a minibus scholar transport.
Two learners were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, while approximately 21 learners were initially taken to different hospitals but were later discharged after receiving necessary medical treatment.
Psychosocial support was offered to those affected by the incident at the school on Thursday.
The bereaved family of the 11-year-old deceased learner also received the same support, as mentioned by Mabona.
MEC Chiloane expressed profound devastation in the wake of this unfortunate incident.
He conveyed his deepest condolences to the grieving family and the broader school community.
The department emphasizes the importance of road safety and vigilance at all times.
