Behind every headline and political debate, there are deeply personal stories—and Tom Homan, Donald Trump’s border czar, is living one of them.
In a revealing conversation, Homan shared how his role in enforcing U.S. immigration policy has forced him to live apart from his wife, all because of threats made against his life.
Living in Fear for Safety, Not Just for the Job
Speaking on journalist Miranda Devine’s podcast, Homan didn’t hold back about what life really looks like behind the scenes.
“My wife is living separately from me right now,” he explained.
“Not just because of the hours I work, but because of the death threats that come with the job.”
He described a difficult reality where time with family has become rare, and security concerns often outweigh personal needs.
“I see her when I can, but the threats have gotten out of control,” he added.
From Border Agent to Trump’s Point Man on Deportations
Tom Homan has spent over three decades in border security, rising from a patrol agent to acting director of ICE during Trump’s first term.
Now at 63, he’s back on the frontlines of Trump’s latest immigration efforts, overseeing a massive deportation operation as part of the former president’s re-election platform.
According to Homan, the administration has already deported about 200,000 individuals in just a few months, with over 100,000 more arrests made by immigration authorities.
That’s roughly 750 arrests per day, more than double the daily average in previous years.
Called Back to Duty Over Dinner with His Wife
Homan remembers the moment Trump asked him to return for a second stint in government.
He and his wife, Elizabeth, were enjoying a quiet dinner when his phone buzzed with a message no one expects: “POTUS.”
His wife knew instantly what it meant.
“‘He’s asking you to come back, isn’t he?’” she asked.
When Homan stepped outside to take the call, Trump’s message was direct: “You’ve been complaining for four years. Come back and fix it.”
“It was a proud moment,” Homan admitted. “How do you say no?”
Tackling Trafficking, Child Labor, and Open Borders
Homan’s return hasn’t been without controversy.
He’s been an outspoken critic of President Biden’s immigration policies, frequently highlighting what he sees as dangerous lapses in border control.
He pointed to millions of illegal crossings and missing children under the current administration.
He also claimed that teams under his leadership have helped rescue victims of sex trafficking and forced labor, including a pregnant 14-year-old and children working illegally on farms.
“This is happening in the United States of America,” he said, stressing the urgency behind their work.
A Marriage Under Pressure and a Life of Sacrifice
While much of the public sees Homan as a firm, no-nonsense figure in the immigration debate, few see the personal cost behind his career.
He and Elizabeth share four children, but his time with them has grown limited.
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson praised his dedication, saying: “Tom Homan is a patriot who’s sacrificing his family life so the American people can sleep soundly.”
Billions More Coming for the Border
As Homan and his team push forward, Trump’s campaign is gearing up for another major move: the Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping plan that promises billions in new spending for border enforcement, detention infrastructure, and security technology.
Whether or not you agree with Homan’s politics, one thing is clear—he’s all in, no matter the personal toll.
