President Bola Tinubu has extended birthday wishes to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), praising her contributions to public service and the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Tinubu described Dabiri-Erewa as a dedicated public servant and committed member of the ruling party, highlighting her longstanding involvement in journalism, politics and diaspora affairs.

The President also wished her good health, wisdom and divine blessings as she continues her work.

President Praises Her Commitment to Social Justice

Tinubu commended Dabiri-Erewa for consistently placing the needs of disadvantaged people at the centre of her public service.

He noted that her work has reflected a commitment to humanitarian causes and social justice, particularly in efforts to support Nigerians living both within the country and overseas.

According to the President, her experience across different areas of public life has been marked by passion, diligence and foresight.

He specifically acknowledged her work as a journalist, lawmaker and head of NIDCOM, describing her efforts to advance the interests of Nigerians in the diaspora as significant.

Tinubu Highlights Role in Mobilising Diaspora Contributions

The President also praised Dabiri-Erewa’s efforts to encourage Nigerians living abroad to contribute their skills and experience to national development.

He highlighted the importance of diaspora involvement in sectors such as education, healthcare and sports, noting that attracting international talent could support development across the country.

Tinubu said Dabiri-Erewa had earned the awards and recognition she had received through her work and commitment to public service.

In his birthday message, he prayed for continued blessings and the wisdom and good health needed to sustain her contributions.

Dabiri-Erewa Built Career in Broadcasting Before Politics

Before entering politics, Dabiri-Erewa worked as a broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), establishing a career in journalism before moving into public office.

Her professional background in the media later became part of her experience in political communication and public affairs.

She subsequently served as a member of the House of Representatives, where she represented the Ikorodu Constituency in Lagos State from 2003 to 2015.

Former Lawmaker Led Key House Committees

During her 12 years in the House of Representatives, Dabiri-Erewa chaired the House Committee on Media and Publicity and headed the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs.

Her legislative responsibilities included media communication and issues affecting Nigerians living abroad, experience that preceded her leadership of NIDCOM.

As head of the commission, she has continued to focus on diaspora engagement and initiatives aimed at strengthening the relationship between Nigerians overseas and their home country.

Tinubu’s birthday message recognised her years of involvement in public service, from broadcasting and legislative duties to leading the federal agency responsible for diaspora affairs.
