The UK government to introduce new economic, trade and transport sanctions on Belarus

New economic, trade, and transportation sanctions against Belarus will be announced by the UK government tomorrow, July 5, 2022, as the Lukashenko regime actively assists Putin’s illegal invasion.

Some of the significant sanctions taken against Russia are extended to Belarus as part of the package, including import and export restrictions on goods worth about £60 million. This includes:

• Exports of oil refining goods
• Exports of advanced technology components, such as those used in quantum computing
• Exports of luxury goods, including British artwork and designer handbags
• Imports of Belarusian iron and steel

The UK government is also preventing more Belarusian businesses from issuing debt and securities in London, limiting Belarus’ access to the world-class financial services sector in the UK.

By allowing Russia to use its territory to encircle Ukraine while launching troops and missiles from their border and flying Russian jets through their airspace, the Belarusian regime actively assisted Putin’s invasion. Additionally, Lukashenko has publicly endorsed the Kremlin’s narrative, asserting that Kyiv provoked Russia to support Putin’s brutal invasion.

The UK government has already taken a number of extensive actions against Belarus, including sanctions against President Lukashenko and senior government figures for their ongoing violations of human rights and disregard for democracy, as well as a 35 percent tariff increase on a variety of Belarusian goods.
