HE On the evening of Thursday, June 2, 2022, Charles Moore, British High Commissioner to Namibia, was happy to host the annual Queen’s Birthday Party (QBP) at his residence. This year’s event was particularly noteworthy since, in addition to commemorating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 96th birthday, it also marked the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne. Her Majesty has now ruled the United Kingdom for the longest time.

The QBP provided an opportunity to recognize the cordial bilateral connection that exists between the United Kingdom and Namibia. Apart from the Platinum Jubilee, the QBP this year focused on climate change, recognizing Namibian youth’s contributions, and the approaching 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, recognizing Namibian athletes and para-athletes’ excellent talent.

Honourable Jenelly Matunda, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, was the honored guest. Other attendees included government officials, ambassadors, corporate leaders, and representatives from a variety of industries.

HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee is being commemorated in Namibia, according to Charles Moore. The High Commissioner also emphasized the importance of the UK and Namibia continuing their bilateral collaboration.

The UK’s role in Namibia is to offer close collaboration and support to a valuable partner and long-term friend. It is to understand what Namibia needs, and what Namibia wants to achieve for its own prosperity and development, and then see how we can contribute most effectively to the delivery and implementation of those plans.
