The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday inaugurated the State Audit Commission building to offer office accommodation for management and personnel of the Agency.

The Governor also commissioned the Public Service Resource Centre in a bid to increase learning activities and build workers’ capacity.

The Governor, who was represented by Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, reiterated his administration’s dedication to the development of employees’ human capital within the constraints of his administration’s limited resources.

He said that the Public Service Resource Centre, which was officially opened, is completely outfitted with regular power supply, Internet facilities, and other amenities to encourage employees to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities.

Dr. Fayemi noted that in order to show its commitment to accountability, his administration gave the Offices of the State Auditor General and Auditor General for Local Government autonomy.

The governor added that in order to properly ingrain probity, openness, and accountability in the system, his government supplied the frameworks required in accordance with best international standards.

He declared: “By establishing the necessary legal frameworks, the Administration initiated measures to ensure high levels of accountability and openness in our accounting and financial systems.

This is consistent with the State Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) and Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) Programs of the World Bank.

“We passed the Ekiti State Audit Law No. 3 of 2021 and the Ekiti State Public Finance Law 2020.

The office of the Auditor General was given independence by the Audit Law, which also formed the Ekiti State Audit Service Commission, so that it may carry out its statutory duties free from interference.

The Governor added that the Audit Reform has improved auditors’ standing in the public sector while requiring them to possess the skill set necessary to handle the demands of their line of work in the modern day.

Earlier, Mr. Ayoola Owolabi, the chairman of the Ekiti State Audit Service Commission, praised the governor for allocating the funding for the project’s execution in order to ensure the agency’s successful launch.

The head of the Audit Service Commission also expressed his appreciation for equipping the building with all the tools required, saying that this will improve the quality of the services provided by the staff.

Mr. Owolabi pledged that the Commission will carry out its responsibilities in accordance with the fundamental goals of the Fayemi Administration.

In accordance with the current law creating the Commission, he urged the Governor to take care of the requirement for the appointment of a substantive Secretary.
