The Gauteng Traffic Police has vowed to intensity operations on major routes in an effort to deal decisively with transgressors

In an effort to deal with violators effectively, the Gauteng Traffic Police has committed to intensify operations on important thoroughfares.

According to Sello Maremane, a spokesman for the Gauteng Traffic Police, “The Gauteng Traffic Police will lead a series of road safety activations and operations across the province in order to save lives and will guarantee that those drivers who conduct themselves with impunity are jailed.”

The initiative follows the Tuesday arrest of two individuals for allegedly exceeding the posted speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour by traveling at an average speed of 130 to 134 kilometres per hour.

The two men, aged 58 and 45, were detained at Bekkersdal police station after being taken into custody during an operation along the N12 motorway in the Western Corridor.

“It is sad that drivers continue to drive carelessly and negligently, endangering the lives of other road users in Gauteng.

In order to preserve lives, we implore drivers to always abide by the traffic laws, Maremane stated.

Unroadworthy vehicles, hazardous overtaking, excessive speeding, drunk driving, and general contempt for traffic laws and signs are just a few of the causes of the numerous traffic fatalities that the province continues to report.
